From the Nebeckers newsletter:

When we become born-again of the Holy Spirit, Jesus mysteriously unites us to Himself. This sacred attachment to Christ serves as the basis for relational intimacy with Him.

But relational intimacy just doesn’t happen. Intimacy begins when we spend time with Him, meditating on His excellence, thinking deeply about His words, being honest with Him, finding enjoyment in His presence, and allowing Him to love and enjoy us as well. Maybe it can be thirty seconds, ten minutes, or longer each day. Sometimes words aren’t even necessary in these daily times of “being with” or “abiding” in Him.

Relational intimacy can be also understood not just as a set time in the day, but also as steady stream of consciousness of His presence and companionship throughout the day; such that we are communing with Him both as our closest friend and as the Lord of the universe.
