Right now, at this very moment, Jesus is praying for his people: Christ Jesus who died — more than that, who was raised to life-is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us (Romans 8v34).

Most of us would readily admit that we don’t pray as much or as fervently as we should. More than that, the longer a person walks with Jesus, the more aware they become of their own neediness. Life is hard. We’re often weary. Part of the great news of the gospel is that you can rest right now because of Jesus’ present work.

Dane Ortlund beautifully summarizes, “One way to think of Christ’s intercession, then, is simply this: Jesus is praying for you right now. Christ is praying for us, even when we are negligent in our prayer life. Our prayer life stinks most of the time. But what if you heard Jesus praying aloud for you in the next room? Few things would calm us more deeply.”

If you’re a Christian, may I encourage you: take some rest in Jesus’ prayers for you today. And if you’re not yet a Christian, I invite you to put your life in his gracious and capable hands. He is altogether lovely, and there is none like him.
